The warkari community taking part in the annual palkhi procession of Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram had an unexpected company on Tuesday,Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev. He walked with them for nearly five kilometres on Tuesday morning.
Baba Ramdev,who arrived in Pune from Nagpur on Monday night to address a seminar of his followers and supporters from western Maharashtra,reached Sansar village in Indapur taluka of Pune district to join the palkhi procession of Sant Tukaram.
Baba reached Sansar around 7.15 am where the palkhi procession was about to proceed. He joined the procession and walked for nearly five kilometrs,to reach Balavadi village, Patanjali Yog Samiti’s Maharashtra president Bapu Padalkar told Newsline.
Accompanied by a large group of followers and supporters,Ramdev left for Lonand village to join the Sant Dnyaneshwar palkhi procession.
After a darshan of padukas,he held a meeting with eminent warkari community leaders.
Describing his experience of taking part in the palkhi processions of Sant Tukaram and Sant Dnyaneshwar,having long-standing tradition,Ramdev said the faith and fervour of devotees was worth seeing.
The bliss was clearly seen on the faces of devotees. Everybody had an aura despite the long and tiresome journey. Both processions epitomize discipline and effective organising skills, he said.
In his brief speech delivered at Lonand,Ramdev is believed to have appealed to warkari community leaders to intensify their agitation against cattle slaughter in Maharashtra. Ramdev followers along with warkari community leaders across the state are scheduled to press the matter with Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on July 19, coinciding with Ashadhi Ekadashi.
After attending both palkhi processions,Ramdev returned to Pune around 1.30 pm and left for Delhi at night after attending a seminar of his supporters.
