Newly-elected representatives flayed the civic administration on the ongoing water cut issue in the city on Monday. They were speaking at the first general body meeting of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) after the civic polls. Responding to the uproar,Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Pathak urged the elected representatives to cooperate with the administration in handling the situation of water shortage. It is sad that I have to give clarifications on water cut on the first day of the newly-elected general body meeting, Pathak said. He said only the civic administration need not be blamed for the water crisis in the city. There is shortage of water and proper management is required to handle the situation. The corporators should cooperate with the administration on the issue, Pathak said, adding that it will take few years for the PMC to complete new projects of water supply. The present consumption of water is 1,050 MLD while the irrigation department has asked us to draw only 900 MLD, he said, adding, that if this continues then there will be shortage in July. Earlier, the issue was raised by Ashok Yenpure of BJP and later elected representatives of all the political parties joined to take on the administration for the water cut being implemented in the city. The opposition alleged that the water shortage was artificial and the situation had arisen because of the dam water was diverted to rural part of the district during the elections.
