Approve billboard policy,NGO urges state govt

Creative Foundation,a non-profit organisation, has urged the state government to approve the pending proposal for Pune Municipal Corporation policy on outdoor advertisements, saying a delay in the decision was leading to revenue loss.

Creative Foundation,a non-profit organisation, has urged the state government to approve the pending proposal for Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) policy on outdoor advertisements, saying a delay in the decision was leading to revenue loss.

“The hoarding policy framed in 2010 is pending with the state government since November,” said Sandeep Khardekar,an activist with the Foundation.

The PMC get a revenue of Rs 6 crore from advertising in the civic jurisdiction,he said adding that the civic administration has been claiming that the revenue would increase to Rs 40 crore if the hoarding policy is implemented.

Khardekar said the government should also urge the PMC to come out with a white paper on the effective implementation of hoarding policy.

There are large number of illegal hoardings in the city and the civic body should make the data of the illegal hoardings public,he said, adding that the government has restricted advertising hoardings and flex in the 25 meter radius of any traffic signal, which has to be implemented.

With directions from high court, the PMC framed the hoarding policy that would keep a check on the hoardings that spoil the skyline of the city and causing inconvenience to commuters. However, the policy is awaiting state government’s approval.
