Meanwhile, a case of accidental death (AD) was filed as per the procedure and a probe was launched to confirm the cause behind the incident. As stated in the FIR, on the morning of January 28, Vijay Battu told the family members gathered at his house that he committed a “big mistake”.

FIR mentions that Vijay told the family members that he was angry because of frequent complaints against Vishal from school, misbehaviour at school and home, not studying properly, and watching blue films on mobile phone. Due to this, he allegedly decided to kill his son and took him to Tuljapur road on a motorcycle around 8 pm on January 13, the FIR stated.

It further mentions that Vijay admitted to giving a cold drink mixed with sodium nitrate to son Vishal at the spot. Then, he left Vishal at the spot and came back home. But now he was filled with remorse and hence admitting the truth before family members, FIR stated.

Police then arrested Vijay under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. Police inspector Ajay Jagtap, who investigated the case said, “Sodium nitrate is available in Solapur for industrial purposes. It is poisonous and used in powerloom industry. Vijay managed to procure sodium nitrate powder and poisoned his own son,” said inspector Jagtap.
