Anant Chaturdashi: Pune police issue advisory. Check temporary restrictions, road closures and diversions from Saturday

The police have also cautioned the commuters that several key roads in the city would experience traffic snarls due to heavy movement of commuters to the central parts of the city for Anant Chaturdashi celebrations.

The Pune police have announced road closures and traffic diversions for Anant Chaturdashi on Saturday, and earmarked a temporary ring road for continued traffic flow. Seventeen arterial roads will be closed to traffic, and 10 diversion points have been notified, as per a notification issued by Himmat Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), on Thursday.

Parking of vehicles has been completely prohibited on 10 major road stretches in the city.

The police have said that the traffic changes and road closures will be enforced in a phased manner from 7 am on Saturday and will remain in force until immersion processions conclude on Sunday. A complete ban on the entry of heavy vehicles will be in place on Saturday and Sunday, while barricades will be put up on the connecting alleys of several key roads in the city.

Details of closure of 17 arterial roads

Shivaji Road and Laxmi Road will be closed from 7 am on Saturday. Tilak Road, Bagade Road, and Guru Nanak Road will be closed for traffic from 9 am.

Ganesh Road and Kelkar Road will be closed from 10 am. Bajirao Road, Shastri Road, and Kumthekar Road will be closed to traffic from noon.

From 4 pm, vehicular traffic on major roads, including Jangli Maharaj Road, Karve Road, Fergusson College Road, Bhandarkar Road, Pune-Satara Road, Solapur Road, and Prabhat Road, will be completely stopped. These road closures will remain in force till the time immersion processions get over on Sunday.

10 traffic diversion points on arterial roads

The points on important roads from where the traffic will be diverted are: Balgandharva Chowk (Jhansi Chi Rani Chowk) on Jangli Maharaj Road, Good Luck Chowk on Fergusson College Road, Kakasaheb Gadgil statue on Shivaji Road, Volga Square on Satara Road, Seven Loves Chowk on Solapur Road, Savarkar statue on Bajirao Road, Nal Stop on Karve Road, Senadatta Police Chowky on Shastri Road, Apollo Talkies on Mudaliar Road and Sant Kabir Police Chowky on Laxmi Road.

A separate set of traffic changes will be locally implemented in Dhayari Phata, Keshav Nagar – Mundhwa, and Sasane Nagar – Hadapsar.

Temporary ring road during processions

A temporary ring road for traffic will be formed by connecting the patches of Karve Road, Nal Stop Chowk, Senapati Bapat Road, Ganeshkhind Road, Simla Office Chowk, Sancheti Hospital Chowk, Shahir Amar Shaikh Chowk on Ambedkar Road, Narpatgiri Chowk, Nehru Road, Shivneri Road, Volga Chowk on Satara Road, Sinhagad Road, Mitramandal Chowk, Shastri Road to Anant Kanhere Path, Mhatre Bridge, and back to Nal Stop.

The traffic police have, however, cautioned that due to the increased number of people trying to reach the central parts of Pune, traffic snarls can be witnessed on these roads.

Roadside parking of vehicles will not be allowed on following roads:

  • Kumthekar Road from Shanipar Chowk to Alka Talkies Chowk
  • Tilak Road from Jedhe Chowk to Alka Talkies Chowk
  • Bajirao Road from Puram Chowk to Futka Buruj Chowk
  • Shivaji Road from Kakasaheb Gadgil Statue to Jedhe Chowk
  • Laxmi Road from Sant Kabir Chowky to Alka Talkies Chowk
  • Kelkar Road from Budhwar Chowk to Alka Talkies Chowk
  • Shastri Road from Senadatt Chowky to Alka Talkies Chowk
  • Jangali Maharaj Road from Balgandharva Chowk (Jhansichi Rani Chowk) to Khandojibaba Chowk
  • Karve Road from Nal Stop to Khandojibaba Chowk
  • Fergusson College Road from Khandojibaba Chowk to Goodluck Chowk

Ban on entry of heavy vehicles into city

The traffic police have said they will enforce a complete ban on entry of heavy vehicles into city limits for 48 hours on Saturday and Sunday.
