Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday slammed Pune city police for the recent incidents of criminals going on a rampage and damaging multiple vehicles in Bibvewadi and Yerwada, causing panic among citizens.

While delivering a speech at the ground breaking ceremony of the new premises of Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate on Thursday, Pawar expressed his displeasure about the incident in Bibvewadi area, in which a group of miscreants vandalised about 25 vehicles parked on the streets.

They also attacked a man, Faizan Tasildar (24), with a sharp weapon during the incident, leaving him injured. He lodged the first information report in this case at Bibvewadi police station on Wednesday.

Police said he was sleeping in his car when the miscreants attacked him and went on to damage other private vehicles on the street around 2.30 am on Wednesday. Police booked two persons in this case on charges of attempt to murder, under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNA) sections 109, 324 (4), 3(5) and sections of the Indian Arms Act.

Apart from this, Pawar also spoke about a similar vandalisation of vehicles in Yerawada and machete attacks in Pune city.
“Some autorickshaws have been damaged by miscreants. How would drivers of these autorickshaws earn a living if such crimes takes place,” said Pawar.

Police had arrested three persons for allegedly damaging multiple vehicles in Yerwada. Pawar said that police should parade the accused persons so that they know the power of the law.

Pawar said he would have told this to the Pune police commissioner if he was present. But, Amitesh Kumar, Commissioner of Pune City Police, was not present on the occasion.

Last month, Ajit Pawar had raised concerns about the increasing crimes in Pune. He said the government was providing essential facilities to the police department for controlling crimes. He talked about the anti drone guns that had been provided to Pune Rural police recently.

Messages along with photos and videos of drones allegedly flying at night in certain areas of Pune district had gone viral on social media, creating concern among local residents a few months ago. It was after this that Pune rural police submitted a proposal to Pune district planning committee to buy “anti drone guns”.
