Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday appointed Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shrikar Pradeshi to probe into the deficiencies at the state government-run Aundh General Hospital. Pawar ordered the probe after MLA Laxman Jagtap had written to him seeking his intervention in the matter.
Pawar has recommended to constitute a committee to probe the matter. Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner will conduct the probe, said District Collector Vikas Deshmukh. However,Pardeshi refused to have received any such orders.
Jagtap said he has pointed out several deficiencies at the hospital.
I have pointed out as many as 14 deficiencies at the hospital. The Deputy Chief Minister has ordered an inquiry, he said.
Jagtap said the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the hospital has not been functioning from the past four years.
After the protests I organised at the hospital last week,I have been told the work to start the ICU has been taken up on war footing, he added.
Jagap alleged the hospital does not has the expertise to treat serious patients. If a patient in unconscious state is brought to the hospital,he is either referred to Sassoon Hospital or YCM Hospital. The hospital also lacks postoperative care unit. he said.
He said the dialysis machine remains non-functional and the new machine has been gathering dust.
The biometric machine was installed a year ago but it still remains non-functional. I am told that employees are not willing to to accept the system, he added.
Referring to the brawl that took place last week at the hospital,he said,My protest was not against one person or the hospital chief,I was protesting against the pathetic state of the hospital. Fingers are being pointed at me,but I wont mind because I am working in the interest of patients.
Jagtap said since the hospital cannot treat patients,it was putting undue pressure on YCM and Sassoon. Both hospitals are overburdened owing to sorry state of Aundh hospital, he said.
