According to police, accused Rani Patil on August 9 made a phone call to the complainant, asking him to visit Wadki area for providing treatment to a dog. While the doctor was on his way to Wadki, the accused allegedly kidnapped him and forcebly put him in a car.

The accused then threatened the doctor and demanded money from him, saying that they had got “supari” (contract for killing) from his wife and brother-in-law in his name.

They snatched keys of the victim’s house and looted cash and gold ornaments from his house and escaped.
During investigation, police scanned CCTV footage from different locations and got clues about the accused.
The arrests were made subsequently, said police.

“Probe has revealed that the complainant lives with his first wife, with whom he separated and the divorce process is underway — in the court. It was learnt that the court had asked the complaint to pay a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to his wife, which he had kept at his home. His second wife, meanwhile, discussed the money at her maternal house in Solapur, where she has been living. Her sister-in-law (Vidya) came to know about that and conspired with her friend Rahul Nikam and other accused to loot the money. Accordingly, they committed the crime,” reads a press release that was issued on Friday.
