A national conference on Micro Electro- Mechanical Systems (MEMS),Smart materials,Structures and Systems was inaugurated by Professor Arun Nigavekar,Founder Director of National Assessment and Accredential Council,at Research and Development Establishment (Engineers),Dighi,on Friday.
On the occasion,Pune chapter of Institute of Smart Structures and Systems(ISSS) was also inaugurated by VK Aatre,former Director General of DRDO and founder president of ISSS.
Nigavekar asked the scientist community to look at technology with different perspective.
At present,150 lakh students are receiving higher education which will increase to 500 lakh by 2020. We need to change our academic structure to meet the future technological requirements, a release issued by the Press Information Bureau,Defence Wing,quoted him saying.
Aatre said globalisation has made an impact on science and technology and suggested to develop technologies which are useful in producing unique and marketable products.
This will help our country become rich in technology, he said.
During the conference,various industries and academia working in the related field exhibited their devices and products.
The two-day conference will include delegates from industries,academia,CSIR and other DRDO laboratories. The technical sessions will cover 74 papers presented by experts deliberating on topics such as structural MEMS,sensors in various domains,such as,bio-medical,optical,mechanical,electrical besides others.
