2 mobiles recovered from Yerawada Central Prison, four inmates booked

On the afternoon of August 6, a search was conducted in a cell shared by three inmates in Tilak Yard of the Yerwada prison and a smartphone was recovered.
A case was registered at the Yerawada police station on August 8 in which the four undertrial inmates were booked under Section 42 of the Prisons Act, which pertains to taking prohibited items into the prisons and attracts a maximum sentence of six months. Police have also invoked IPC Section 188 (disobeying orders by public servants).
Express had earlier reported that between April 1 and July, authorities of the prison department recovered as many 33 cell phones in 20 cases reported across Maharashtra as part of a drive to remove mobile phones from prisons.
