1993 Latur earthquake to be recreated tomorrow

The devastating scenes of the 1993 Latur earthquake will be recreated to educate citizens about the different disaster management measures.

The devastating scenes of the 1993 Latur earthquake will be recreated to educate citizens about the different disaster management measures required to be taken after such natural calamities,on September 29 and 30,to mark the completion of two decades of the tragedy.

The event is being organised by Wagholi Educational Rehabilitation Project (WERP) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at WERP ground.

“A team of the 5th battalion of the NDRF will demonstrate rescue operations that are undertaken after an earthquake. A multi-storey building will be shown collapsing. Officials will demonstrate how human beings are rescued by cutting debris using life detection equipment in an hour-long exercise,” a release said.

The demonstration will be open to all from noon to 1 pm. Different equipment used by the National Disaster Management Authority during various natural calamities and photographs of relief work undertaken by the Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana will be exhibited from 9 am to 6 pm.
