Police arrested a newly appointed X-ray technician at Nair Hospital Thursday following a molestation complaint by a 17-year-old female patient.
The man, Vijay Kurade (30), was produced before a magistrate on Thursday and remanded to judicial custody until February 21.
Hospital sources said the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon when the patient, suffering from fever for two months, came for a chest X-ray.
“She was accompanied by her mother and aunt. Kurade asked the two women to wait outside the X-ray room and inappropriately touched the patient, who immediately ran out and told her mother. They complained to a senior official in the hospital, who directed them to police,” said Kishor Baviskar, senior police inspector, Agripada police station.
Dr Megha Ambiye, head of anatomy department at Nair, visited the the X-ray department after the girl raised an alarm and ensured a case was registered against the technician, a source said.
This is the second case of molestation in the hospital in three months. In November last year, a female nurse was molested by a patient’s relative in the lift.
Nair Hospital’s dean Dr R N Bharmal refused to comment on the case.
