The case of a woman falling off a running local train headed to Kalyan on Monday evening has become a mystery for investigators with the victim telling the police she does not know how she fell down. The woman fell on the tracks on Monday evening and was admitted to Thane Civil Hospital in a serious condition, before she was transferred to KEM Hospital in Parel.
According to police sources,Jaishree Deepak Tribhuvan (27) of Diva boarded the train from Thane late Monday evening. As the train was crowded, she was standing on the footboard. As the train passed between Kalwa and Mumbra stations, she fell off the running train. She was immediately rushed to Thane Civil Hospital.
According to Senior Police Inspector (GRP) Hanumant Jadhav of Thane station,As she had injuries on her head and forehead,CT scans and other check ups were necessary and she was therefore shifted to KEM hospital.
No belongings were found near her, said a police source a Thana. Most probably, she was hit on her hand and fell down near the tracks. Otherwise, where are her belongings?
This modus operandi of looting unsuspecting commuters on moving trains has been the cause of several deaths on the Central and Western railways. On August 17,2010,one Vandana shukla was hit on the waist by an unidentified person between Rabale and Airoli stations as she was standing on the footboard near the station.
Such cases are common at places where vegetables are being cultivated near the tracks and places which have hutments near the tracks. The miscreants hide behind the signal poles and throw something at the commuters as the train comes near. The victims instinctively drop whatever they are holding, which the thief collects. But the commuters often hit the pole in the process and fall from the train, said an official.
