Woman arrested for kidnapping infant from footpath in Nagpada
Police said the parents of the one-year-old sell balloons for a living

The Mumbai Police on Thursday arrested a 30-year-old woman for allegedly kidnapping a one-year-old boy from the footpath in Nagpada.
The police said the incident took place in the wee hours on Thursday but the case was registered in the afternoon after the infant’s parents approached Nagpada police station.
According to police officials, the parents of the one-year-old are into selling balloons.
“While they were selling balloons on the road in Nagpada in the early hours on Thursday, they noticed that their son who was playing on the footpath had suddenly disappeared,” said a police officer.
They started looking for him around but as they could not find him, the couple lodged a complaint with Nagpada police.
In the hunt of leads, the police officials started scanning the CCTV footages, when they saw that a woman wearing a yellow colour dress had kidnapped the infant.
“We circulated her picture (CCTV grab) in the vicinity after which we received an information that she is in nearby Pydhonie area,” said an investigator.
The police team then went to her location, detained the woman and took the custody of the child.
“The woman has been arrested and we are trying to ascertain the reason for kidnapping, whether she had planned to sell the infant to childless couple or something else,” said an officer.
