(Representative Photo)After being in custody for over three months, a woman, who was arrested along with her husband for being a part of an altercation with a man at Sion railway station and causing him to fall on the tracks and be run over by a train, was granted bail by a sessions court recently.
In August, CCTV footage from Sion railway station showed that a woman hit a man with an umbrella as he brushed past her. A few seconds later, another man was seen slapping the man, causing him to fall off the platform onto the tracks, when an oncoming train ran over him, causing his death.
The victim was later identified to be Dinesh Rathod. The Dadar railway police, based on the CCTV footage and other information, arrested Shital Mane and her husband Avinash Mane on August 16. The two were booked on charges, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder of the Indian Penal Code.
The court in its order on Saturday said that the evidence showed that on August 13, Rathod was standing on platform one of Sion station. It added that Shital hit him with an umbrella after he accidentally brushed past her and her husband slapped him, causing him to lose his balance. The court said that Shital has been behind bars since August 16 and the chargesheet has been filed.
“It is submitted that the chargesheet is already filed therefore, investigation appears to have been completed. Considering the circumstances under which the incident took place, I am of the view that further detention of the applicant / accused (Shital) during pendency of trial is unwarranted,” the court said.
It imposed various conditions on Shital, a 29-year-old homemaker, including that she will not tamper with the probe. The bail plea of her husband is yet to be heard.
