Announcing that her political and ideological fight is only against the BJP and nobody else, Baramati MP Supriya Sule of the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) Wednesday said that she will be the first to garland her rebel cousin brother Ajit Pawar if he becomes the chief minister of Maharashtra.

“The BJP has a habit of igniting internal fights. Be it within the Shiv Sena or among us. We will not let that happen. We will not fall into this trap. My fight is political and ideological and it is only against the BJP and nobody else,” she said.

Sule was speaking at the programme organised by NCP women’s wing with party president Sharad Pawar, state unit chief Jayant Patil on the dais.

“They (BJP) used to give a call for Congress Mukt Bharat. Really? Say thank you to Devendra Fadnavis. What did he say? He said that he will make Ajit Pawar Chief Minister for five years in 2024. Me and NCP women workers will be the first to garland him (Ajit Pawar). Why not? He is my brother first. I have a claim over him, before BJP,” she said.

Sule’s remarks come at a time when Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar groups are battling at the Election Commission of India (ECI) after latter staked claim on the party name and symbol.

Since the rebellion by Ajit Pawar on July 2 to join the state government, Sule has maintained that it was not a political split but an emotional one.

Addressing the women workers of the party, Sharad Pawar appealed them to hit the streets against any wrongdoings. “There is nothing to worry if cases are being slapped. Governments do keep changing and cases get withdrawn,” he said.

Earlier, Patil said that it was time to fight as there is not exit route. “Many people will give you money to contest elections. But where will you get voters? Voters have trust in Sharad Pawar only. Wherever he stands, the party stands,” he said.

Taking a jibe at those who have switched sides to join the BJP, Sule said that our workers should feel proud that those women who are at important positions in the BJP have been trained in the Congress and the NCP.

Without naming Ajit Pawar’s open letter on Tuesday where he had said that he was following the principles laid down by Maharashtra’s first Chief Minister late Yashavantrao Chavan and did not mention his uncle Sharad Pawar, Sule said that it is good that Chavan is replacing Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the founder of RSS.

“It is happening because of the realisation that Hedgewar won’t give votes. I am talking about the entire triple engine government. Therefore, it is heartening to see that Chavan’s photo is becoming bigger even in this government,” she said.
