In a scatching attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray on Wednesday questioned its right to collect toll and road taxes without providing basic amenities to people. “The BJP had made tall promises of toll-free Maharashtra before elections. Look at the conditions of our roads and highways. There are potholes. huge traffic jams. What right they have to collect toll and road tax from people,” Raj Thackeray demanded. Holding the ruling party responsible, the MNS leader said, “Those at the helm are not concerned about people. It is complete failure of the BJP.” Earlier this week, MNS workers allegedly attacked a toll plaza at Sinnar-Nashik when Raj’s son Amit Thackeray was touring Nashik district. The violence evoked sharp rebuke from the BJP with Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis saying, “ We don’t subscribe to such politics.” State BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule also said, “If MNS had any issue with toll tax or any other issue, they should have taken up the matter with appropriate authorities and leaders in the government.”
