The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has asked five of its former officials to be present before the inquiry committee, which is probing into the matter of 405 unsold tickets for the 2011 World Cup.
The MCA has summoned former joint secretary Lalchand Rajput, former vice-president Ratnakar Shetty,World Cup’s ticketing in charge Ganesh Iyer,Shripad Halbe and Pradeep Zaveri at its headquarters on Wednesday,June 26.
MCA treasurer Mayank Khandwala, who is also the convenor of the inquiry committee, sent emails to the five officials on Saturday, asking them for clarification on the matter.
MCA suffered a loss of Rs 74 lakh when nearly 405 tickets for the World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka went unsold in mysterious circumstances. Of these tickets,96 were of the Sunil Gavaskar Stand (lower bay),which were meant for general public. Each of the 96 tickets cost Rs 1,500.
Rajput and Iyer, meanwhile, said they won’t be able to make it to the inquiry committee meeting as they are of town. Rajput, the former Indian cricketer-turned-coach,is in Ahmedabad where he is conducting a National Cricket Academy camp. I won’t be available as I’m busy with BCCI camp in Ahmedabad, he informed. Iyer,on the other hand, said he will be only back on June 27 as he is in Verawal.
Interestingly,MCA had also called up Shetty, whom they have ban for five years only few weeks ago. Shetty was treasurer of MCA during 2011 World Cup. It is unclear whether a person banned from the MCA can enter its premises during the given period.
During its AGM on March 22,Shetty had raised concerns over the progress of the inquiry on the subject and had sought clarification regarding the members on the panel, the terms and time frame set for the inquiry commission. It has been more than three months that the report of the unsold tickets surfaced but the MCA has not been able to find a concrete reason for it. When contacted,MCA joint-secretary Nitin Dalal and PV Shetty were unavailable for comment.
