Civic officials said that the 1,200 mm damaged pipeline, which was a central water supply unit, was damaged during the ongoing piling work for the Mumbai metro.

Several areas in Central Mumbai and the easters suburbs of the city will face a water supply cut for the next 24 hours owing to a pipeline being damaged, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The affected areas include Wadala, Sion, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Antop Hill, Chembur, Govandi and Mankhurd — spread across the municipal wards of F/south, F/North, L, N, M/East and M/West.
Civic officials said that the 1,200 mm damaged pipeline, which was a central water supply unit, was damaged during the ongoing piling work for the Mumbai metro.
“To prevent any further loss of water, the entire water supply has been shut down and will remain non-operational for the next 24 hours till April 19,” an official said, while the BMC urged citizens to use water cautiously.
Officials further said that metro authorities had been informed about the damage, adding that a decision on whether to penalise the contractor will be taken after an assessment. In the meantime, authorities said that a written explanation has been sought from the contractor.
