Owing to a land constraint issue, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has modified the design of Wadala Truck Terminus (WTT) station of the elevated Mumbai Metro Line 4 (Wadala-Kasarvadavali), said officials. The WTT station, which was earlier supposed to be two-storey, will now be three-storey. According to MMRDA officials, the station was supposed to be constructed on a Good and Service Tax (GST) land parcel, but as the GST authorities decided to come up with a bhavan (office building) for themselves, the station needs to be shifted. However, since the existing monorail station is to be constructed in close proximity, it was decided that the GST Bhavan and Wadala TT station will be constructed in the same building. In elevated Metro Line 9 (Dahisar to Mira Bhayander), the Medetiya station will also be three-storey, said officials. According to officials, the construction cost for Metro 4's WTT station has now increased to Rs 49.95 crore due to the revised design. At present, work on Metro Line 4 is over 41 per cent ready, and it is expected to be operational in a phased manner soon. Phase 1 — between Kapubawadi to JVLR — is expected to be ready by November or December 2024, and Phase 2 by June 2025. This line alone is expected to carry 12.13 lakh ridership daily, once fully operational, said officials.
