Vice Admiral Sanjeev Bhasin,who was commissioned into the executive branch of the Indian Navy in 1972,took charge as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command at a ceremonial parade held on the Navys newly commissioned base,INS Shikra,on Thursday. Vice Admiral Bhasin took over as the commands chief from Vice Admiral Jagjit Singh Bedi,who retired today.
Vice Admiral Bhasin,an alumnus of the 38th course of the National Defence Academy (NDA),has served as the Chief of Staff of Western Naval Command and was the Fleet Commander of the Eastern Fleet. On promotion to the rank of Vice Admiral in November 2006,he was appointed as Deputy Chief Integrated Defence Staff at HQ Integrated Defence Staff and has also headed the National Defence College as its Commandant. Prior to taking up his present appointment as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the prestigious Western Naval Command,Bhasin was Officer on Special Duties to the Chief of Naval Staff at Delhi. He is a graduate of Naval War College (USA) and College of Naval Warfare (Mumbai).
Vice Admiral JS Bedi retired after a distinguish career in the Navy that lasted 40 years. He has had the distinction of commanding a naval ship in every rank.
