Veteran socialist Pradhan passes away

Veteran socialist leader Ganesh Prabhakar Pradhan,popular as ‘Ga Pra’ Pradhan died in a Pune hospital on Sunday after a prolonged illness.

Veteran socialist leader Ganesh Prabhakar Pradhan,popular as ‘Ga Pra’ Pradhan died in a Pune hospital on Sunday after a prolonged illness. He was 88. Pradhan used to teach English in Pune’s Fergusson College and became a hardcore socialist after coming into contact with veterans like S M Joshi and N G Gore.

He was jailed during Quit India Movement and during the emergency.

In 1966,he was nominated an MLC.

CM Ashok Chavan said Pradhan was a noble presence in politics and social service. “He was the epitome of simple living,high thinking,” Chavan said.

Deputy CM Chhagan Bhujbal said he was an ideal people’s representative,who had an extraordinary ability to understand social and political happenings and lived a simple life.

BJP state president Sudhir Mungantiwar said the nation has lost an encyclopedia of the freedom movement. BJP national secretary Gopinath Munde said the country had lost an honest and intelligent person,who remained committed to his ideology throughout life and led a simple,ethical life.
