A team of Uttar Pradesh (UP) Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officers are in Haryana to probe an alleged Naxal link to an illegal arms racket spread across several states. Allwyn Dsa (80),who was arrested on April 30 from his Dadar residence, was allegedly among those who would assemble guns using imported parts that would then be sold. The gang has been dealing with Naxalities since 2007. Assembled guns would be supplied through gun stores in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The Naxal link was revealed when we examined the sale records of a gun shop in UP. Several of the customers mentioned turned out to be history-sheeters who have acted as middlemen for Naxals. They would buy guns and deliver them to Naxals, said sub-inspector Ravindra Singh,UP ATS. UP ATS will interrogate a man who has been lodged in a central jail in Haryana for four-five months after being arrested for alleged Naxalist links. The two main sources of arms and ammunition for Naxals have been illegal arms suppliers and raiding government armories. Recently, police in several states increased security at their armories and also cracked down on those found to be hiding raided arms and ammunition in their houses. Naxals have started depending more on illegal arms suppliers, such as this gang. A probe is on, said Singh. mumbai.newsline@expressindia.com
