Uddhav Thackeray wants Sena leaders to take state govt to task

There has been a growing strain in ties between the two parties. The latest trigger was the volte face by the BJP on the new Open Spaces Policy.

Shiv Sena President, Uddhav Thackeray has told party leaders to be more vocal and take the state government to task. The directive to be more aggressive was given at a meeting with senior party leaders.

At the meeting which was attended by the top brass of the party, Thackeray told them to be more vocal against the policies of the BJP-led state government. Senior leaders have been told to be more visible on the streets and to take up issues which affect the public.

In line with this initiative, senior party leader and industries minister, Subhash Desai is likely to evaluate the performance of the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme and take up the cause of people who have not been allotted houses under this scheme.

The new policy was largely seen as an initiative of the Sena. However, following public outcry, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stepped in and put it on hold. Sena’s insistence on taking the ruling party to task is also because it feels that the BJP is at its most vulnerable at this juncture. The BJP has fared poorly in urban local body elections held across the state.

However, with the recent reverses and controversies which have plagued the BJP, the Shiv Sena has become increasingly become vocal in taking swipes at its alliance partner.
