Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray Thursday slammed the BJP over the “Saugat-e-Modi” initiative to distribute food kits among Muslims ahead of Eid celebrations, terming it “Saugat-e-Satta” (power) which is aimed at winning the upcoming Bihar elections.

“When Sena (UBT) received overwhelming support from Muslim voters, a hue and cry was made, saying that I had abandoned Hindutva. They even used terms like ‘Satta-Jihad’. But now, the same people have reversed their position,” Uddhav said at a press conference in Mumbai.

“Will this ‘Saugat-e-Satta’ (gift of power) be limited to the Bihar elections (scheduled in 2025-end), or will it have a lasting impact? The BJP should also declare that it has given up Hindutva,” he added.

Uddhav further accused the BJP of indulging in communal politics and fostering tensions between two communities.

“Muslims face police action,  their houses are burnt and bulldozed… Hindus are instigated  against Muslims… They have been spreading hatred against Muslims for many years  and now they are seeking Muslim votes. The BJP should clarify if it wants to offer food to Muslims or poison,” the former CM said.

The former chief minister also questioned why no action was taken against the school director in the Badlapur sexual assault case or actor Rahul Solarpurkar who allegedly insulted Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj while the police was quick to act against comedian Kunal Kamra over his remarks against Deputy CM Eknath Shinde.

“If comedian Kunal Kamra criticises a traitor, action is taken immediately. Then when will action be taken against those who insult great men?” he asked.

He further hit out at the Mahayuti government for not increasing the monthly payout under the Ladki Bahin scheme from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,100.

“The government only announces schemes… They said that  Rs 2,100 will be given to our beloved sisters… but now sisters are being scrutinised (for criteria under the scheme)… (Assembly) Elections were contested on the issue of farm distress and now the government is ignoring the farmers. The Chief Minister is trying to save everyone, except for the people of the state,” Uddhav said.
