It is a battle between supporters of dictatorship and democracy: Uddhav

“I appeal to the people of the state to keep caste, religion aside and come together to save the country. Because only if the country is saved, we can save the religion. Right now, our only religion is to save the country,” said Thackeray.

Shiv Sena (UBT) president and former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said that the upcoming Lok Sabha elections is a battle between those who favour dictatorship and those who want democracy and Maharashtra will be the state, which will bury dictatorship.

Speaking at a public rally organised in Dharavi by socialist organisations, Thackeray said, “We are coming together not against Modi. We are coming together against dictatorship. We do not want a dictator. We want to preserve Indian democracy. We have neither BJP nor Modi against us but it is the dictatorial behaviour against which we stand. Irrespective of having different ideologies, we joined hands because we are the real patriots only to answer this dictatorial behaviour.”

“I appeal to the people of the state to keep caste, religion aside and come together to save the country. Because only if the country is saved, we can save the religion. Right now, our only religion is to save the country,” said Thackeray.

Attacking ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Thackeray said, “During Emergency, Bihar’s Gandhi maidan shown us the beginning. This time it will be the Maharashtra of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who will bury dictatorship and make them taste their first defeat… BJP says ‘ab ki baar 400 paar’. We say ‘ab ki baar BJP tadipaar’.”

Thackeray slammed the BJP over not declaring the Lok Sabha ticket to “RSS loyalist” Union minister Nitin Gadkari in its first list and instead choosing former Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh.

“In the first list of BJP, Modiji and Shah were named. Maharashtra didn’t know them earlier. We knew Nitin Gadkariji, who is someone who worked hard on road construction in the country. He is a hardcore RSS leader. He is not in the first list of the BJP because they claim the list is not for Maharashtra. But, Mumbai’s Kripashankar Singh whom BJP alleged to be involved is corruption is in the first list of the BJP. Which guarantee is this,” he said.
