The Bombay High Court has granted bail to two persons accused in the Anil Ambani helicopter sabotage case. Expressing concern over the safety of the duo,Justice V M Kanade asked them,will you be safe after securing bail.
However advocate Rajendra Desai,appearing for the accused,told the court that both his clients wished to be out of prison and were willing to take the risk.
The two accused- Uday Warekar,32,and Palraj Thewar,38,had informed the court of the mysterious death of Anil Kotian,a technician who had also been on the chopper.
On April 28 Bharat Borge,who was the first to find mud and pebbles in Ambanis helicopter,died under mysterious circumstances. All four were Air Works India Engineering Pvt Ltd employees,the company in charge of the choppers maintenance .
Warekar and Thewar were arrested on May 3 this year and booked under the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation (SUAASCA) Act along with provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code. A special SUAASCA court had rejected their bail plea on August 26 after which they moved the high court.
Some pebbles and mud were found in the combined gear box of a Bell 412,a seven-seater helicopter,owned by the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group on April 23.
Warekar and Thewar,in their bail application,stated that they had entered the chopper only for cleaning it and were not skilled technicians who could have opened the gear box.
