The Amboli police on Wednesday arrested a scriptwriter and director in television industry for allegedly defrauding a film producer of Rs 2.65 crore. The accused allegedly breached the terms and conditions in the agreement of a project and caused wrongful loss to the complainant, said police.
The accused, Mahesh Pandey, who was known for popular TV soap ‘Kasauti Zindagi Ki’, was produced in the court on Thursday and was sent to judicial custody by the court, said a police source.
Police took action against Pandey acting on the complaint of Jatin Sethi, a film producer.
According to police, Sethi was supposed to get a payment of Rs 2.5 crore from Pandey for a project as per the agreement signed between the two parties but he never got the money.
Sethi alleged before police that Pandey had no intention of paying him and even created a fake email ID to show that he had sent a few emails to Prasar Bharti to release the payment, so that he could pay Sethi.
Sethi alleged that despite having received payment from Prasar Bharti, Pandey did not pay him and lied saying he was putting efforts to clear his payment, said another police source.
Pandey has been booked under charges of cheating and breach of trust.
