(Representational Image)A 74-year-old television serial maker has filed a complaint against his wife for allegedly misusing a power of attorney and wrongfully selling a flat of the complainant and causing wrongful loss to him to the tune of Rs 3.5 crore. The Malad police on Thursday registered an FIR and started investigation.
The complainant and his son are into television serial making. He has separated from his first wife, but one of the two sons (from her) lives with him, while another died in 2017.
The accused woman, Renu Singh, 60, met the complainant in 2016, claiming to be from an NGO. Later, the complainant and the woman mutually decided to get married and tied the knot in 2019.
As per the septuagenarian’s police complaint, his deceased son’s wife had filed a petition in the high court over some property issues. Since his growing age did not support him in fighting the legal battle, he gave a power of attorney to his second wife, Renu Singh, with the sole purpose of fighting the court case.
In December 2020, Renu Singh allegedly took advantage of the complainant’s old age and allegedly wrongfully got the complainant’s Rs 3.61 crore from his bank account transferred to her name. When the complainant found this, he filed a criminal case against her in January 2021 at the Oshiwara police station, the complainant told Malad police.
On his complaint, the Malad police have booked Renu Singh under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
