Truck loaded with gutkha seized

A truck transporting gutkha worth over Rs 9 lakh was seized by the JJ Marg police station on Monday. The truck carrying 55 containers of gutkha had evaded octroi worth Rs 63,000 and was stopped following a tip off from the assessment and collection officials of the BMC.

Officials said that the truck had entered the city from the Vashinaka octroi post and was headed towards a godown in south Mumbai when it was stopped and the gutkha was seized. “The actual value of the gutkha will be ascertained only after we physically inspect all the containers and tally the declared amount with the actual MRP,” said S Rana,a vigilance official of the BMC.
