When it comes to handling weaponry,DGP SS Virk proved that he was as good as any of the QRT commandos who were displaying their skills at modern weapons at the SRPF firing range on Friday evening. It was Virk who performed the best, when he joined Commissioner of Police Hasan Gafoor and other senior police officials in firing rounds from an assault rifle.
I havent fired a weapon for the past 15 years, but I am glad to know that I havent lost the knack, Virk told mediapersons after the firing.
Virk had gathered the QRT commandos at the SRPF firing range at Goregaon to evaluate their skills and the condition of weapons available with the Mumbai Police. The event began with a demonstration of small arms fire by QRT commandos with Glock pistols. The commandos also did a simulation attack,in which a hostage was rescued and two terrorists were killed in a display of buddy pair assault. They also demonstrated firing with assault rifles, after which the senior police officials decided to try their skills.
After the event,Gafoor said,Such training sessions have always been part of the Mumbai Police department and today we had gathered here to evaluate the training and skills of commandos. The QRT is different from the proposed Force 1. The QRT is a smaller unit compared to Force 1,and the latter will be deployed throughout the state while the QRT will be based in the city.
When asked whether there was room for improvement in weaponry,Gafoor said,The assault rifles are in good condition. However,we have finalised weapons that will be acquired in the next month or so.
