THREE PERSONS were sentenced to ten years in jail on Monday in connection with the rape of a minor girl in 2019.

The woman and an associate were convicted for taking the minor to the man, who raped her on the pretext of offering her a job.

According to the submissions made by the special public prosecutor Veena Shelar, in May 2019, the 17-year-old victim, a resident of the eastern suburbs of the city, was offered a job by the woman, who lived in her neighbourhood.

The teenager was offered a job as a domestic help. The accused woman and her associate first took a photograph of the teenager. They then took her to a house where the main accused was present.
The accused raped the victim, while the two accused waited outside the house. They threatened her that they had a video of the act and if she revealed anything about it to anyone, they would circulate it.

The victim went home and kept quiet about the act due to the threat. After a month, the victim told her elder sister that she had missed her period.

When her sister took her for a medical check up, it was revealed that the victim was pregnant. The news came as a shock, and when her sister questioned her , the victim spilled the beans. She told her sister about the accused and the crime, and the threats made.

The two then approached the police, who filed an FIR against the rapist and accused woman on allegations including rape under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
