The Mumbai crime branch investigating a call from a US-based number where the caller claimed that a Worli-based corporate employee was a ‘terrorist,’ suspects it to be a hoax call. The police have found that the person no longer worked in the Worli-based company and had moved to the UK a few years ago.
Further, the caller who appears to have given his true name was his classmate in Gujarat and the duo had several disputes over the years. The UK resident said that the caller was also jealous of his high scores in the school.
An officer said the Pune police control room received a call from a US number where the caller gave information about a terrorist based in Worli. On verification, the police found that the person was in UK.
When the police spoke to him on the phone and gave the name of the caller, he told the police the caller was his classmate at Ahmedabad. He further told the police the duo would often fight over the years and he may have done this to take revenge.
An officer said they are tracking the caller’s number to find out if he is actually based in US. The police are yet to decide whether a case shall be registered in the matter.
