Six held for stealing over 2,000 Mumbai Marathon medals worth Rs 1.38 lakh

According to police, the medals were kept in 162 boxes and were to be given to participants of the Mumbai Marathon.

The Azad Maidan police on Monday arrested six persons for allegedly stealing 2,200 Marathon medals from tents set up at the ground at Bombay Gymkhana.

According to police, the medals were kept in 162 boxes and were to be given to participants of the Mumbai Marathon.

According to the police officials, the six arrested persons are Vignesh Pandey Tevar (20), Nasir Abdul Shaikh (24), Pirmal Balan, Gautam Ganesh Solanki (24), Rohit Vijaysingh (23) and Amir Rafiq Sheikh (26).

An officer said, “A case of theft was registered after it came to light that 162 boxes were stolen by unknown persons. We conducted a probe and through CCTV footage and other technical evidence, we came to know about the role of the six individuals following which they were arrested.”

Police have managed to recover 620 medals worth Rs 1.38 lakh from the arrested persons.
