Swimming classes turn tragic,5-yr-old drowns in pool

The incident took place around 7pm on Sunday when Parab,a student of Vivek Vidyalaya,had gone to learn swimming in Ozon Club located behind Prabodhankar Thackarey Hall. Goregaon police said Parab had joined swimming classes at club during summer vacations. On Sunday,he had gone to the pool with his mother.

Police said the instructor did not spot Parab while drowning as the pool was crowded with children. However,when his mother searched for him,she saw Parab drowning. The instructor took him out of the pool after she screamed for help.

He was rushed to Siddharth Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Parab’s father works at the Mazgaon Docks and was not present at the time of the incident. Parab is not a member of the club and had only joined the swimming classes for a month.

Police have registered a case of death due to negligence against the pool instructor and arrested him. “We are investigating the incident for events that led to Parab’s death,” senior police inspector Arun Jadhav said.
