NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule (Express File Photo)Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule on Thursday demanded to resume the ongoing probe by Enforcement Directorate (ED) against Walmik Karad, a close aide of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and minister Dhananjay Munde, who is under arrest in a case linked to the murder of Santosh Deshmukh — a sarpanch from Beed district.
“The ED had sent a notice to Walmik Karad in the year 2022. What happened to that probe? What is it regarding? The ED which went on to arrest leaders like Anil Deshmukh merely on a hearsay has done nothing to Karad. A notice was issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), but no formal action had been taken,” said Sule, displaying the ED notice.
The opposition has already demanded the ouster of Munde from the state cabinet claiming his presence as minister would influence the ongoing probe. NCP-SP MLA Jitendra Awhad has also questioned the delay in slapping murder charges against Karad.
She also showed the May 2024 FIR against Karad for extortion. “The FIR names Karad as a key player in an extortion case filed by Awada Company. Had action been taken then, the life of Santosh Deshmukh would have been saved,” she said.
Sule said that she, along with Beed’s Lok Sabha MP Bajrang Sonwane, will be meeting Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman requesting her to resume the ED probe against Karad.

Sule questioned the government on appointing Karad as the President of the ‘Majhi Ladki Behen Yojana’ in Parli taluka at a time he is implicated in an extortion case. “Why was a person facing serious charges of extortion and money laundering appointed as the president of a welfare scheme like the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’? Why is there one law for figures like Anil Deshmukh, Sanjay Raut, and Nawab Malik, and a completely different set of laws for Walmik Karad?” Sule raised during her press interaction.
