Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule on Wednesday said that the Maharashtra government should call for a special session of the state legislature, to solve the issue of reservation demanded by different communities.

“The Maratha, Dhangar, Lingayat, and Muslim communities are demanding reservation in Maharashtra. We have a demand… that an all-party meeting be called on this issue and a special session of the state legislature be held. A resolution should be passed here, and then must be sent to the Centre,” said Sule, adding that the state government suffers from “policy paralysis” as nothing has been happening on the ground.

While addressing the Dussehra rally organised by the Shiv Sena on Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had promised that he will “ensure reservation” to the Maratha community. Reminding CM Shinde about his emotional bid of bowing down before a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and taking an oath to give the Maratha community their quota, Sule said that “he (the CM) might have a magic wand, which will solve the issue within the next 24 hours”.

“I saw yesterday (Tuesday), the Maharashtra chief minister bowed down in front of Shivaji Maharaj (and made a promise). It seems that he has found a solution to this problem, and it will be solved in the next 24 hours,” said Sule.

On CM Shinde’s comment that “Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray wanted to become the state chief minister in 2004”, Sule said, “If the chief minister is making comments on imaginary things, it shows the sorry state of affairs in this state. It does not even deserve a comment from me.”
