A 32-year-old police sub-inspector with the Mumbai police was booked on Saturday for allegedly raping a 25-year-old woman police constable, also attached to the Mumbai police force, under false pretexts.
In the year 2020 the accused first met the complainant and befriended her.
According to police sources, the two got closer and the sub-inspector took her to a flat in Sanpada and allegedly raped her under pretenses of marriage. Later, he repeated the act a number of times on different occasions.
The accused police officer also allegedly borrowed Rs 19 lakh from the complainant police constable on different occasions, however, he failed to return the same on promised time.
When the complainant rigorously followed up with him, he returned her Rs 14.6 lakhs, the police source said. “Accused started forcing the woman constable to divorce her husband and when she refused to do so he threatened to kill her. The accused cop would also follow the woman on the street,” said another source.
Seeing no improvement in the accused cop’s behaviour the police constable finally filed a police complaint.
Based on her complaint, the police officer was booked under relevant charges of Indian Penal Code for rape, repeated rape, sexual harassment, criminal intimidation cheating and stalking.
A departmental inquiry has also been initiated against the accused cop, the second source said.
