Steering away from autorickshaw,tanker rams into shops instead,kills one

A newspaper delivery boy was killed and two injured after a tanker went out of control in Versova.

A newspaper delivery boy was killed and two injured after a tanker went out of control in Versova on Thursday morning. According to the police,Mohammad Ansari (25) lost control of the water tanker after an autorickshaw in front of him applied sudden brakes. To avoid hitting the auto,Ansari veered the tanker and rammed into nearby shops resulting in death of a 20-year-old. Ansari and the cleaner also suffered injuries and were rushed to a hospital. The police have registered a case of rash and negligent drving against Ansari.

Senior Police Inspector Suresh Nalawade from the Versova police station said,“The incident occurred around 7 am on Thursday when an empty tanker,driven by Ansari,was on its way from Seven Bungalows to Versova. An autorickshaw in front of the tanker suddenly applied brakes to accommodate a passenger,forcing Ansari to steer the tanker.”

The tanker rammed into a few shops instead and ran over Navnath Khadekar,a newspaper delivery boy. “Versova resident Khadekar was rushed to Cooper Hospital where he sucumbbed to his injuries. Ansari and cleaner Mariappa both suffered fracture injuries and were also rushed to Cooper Hospital. Ansari was later shifted to KEM Hospital as he had suffered severe chest injuries,” said Nalawade.

Khadekar’s body was handed over to the family after the post mortem. The family was unavailable for comment.
