Multiple trips made by a south Mumbai-based woman to Pune where she stayed only for 20 minutes set off the alarm for the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Police to bust an alleged network involved in supplying narcotics to Pune from Mumbai with the arrest of seven persons.

The woman, a former school teacher identified as Succerino Fernandes (58), who resides at Kemps Corner in south Mumbai, is alleged to have been a carrier of the contraband supplied to her by a Malad based woman Anju Paul (57).

DCP (Anti Narcotics Cell) Prakash Jadhav said, “It was the frequent trips to Pune made by Fernandes late at night and her staying there for only 20 minutes each time that led us to maintain surveillance.” The probe by Ghatkopar ANC revealed that she would take a shared cab from Dadar. The police team then laid a trap and detained her on Tuesday night from Dadar. They found that she was carrying Mephedrone. Raids were placed at multiple places in Kemps Corner, Malad, Virar and Pune.

A total of five people including two Nigerians and two women have been arrested, Jadhav said. The police also arrested two alleged drug peddlers from Pune as well who took the drug delivery from Fernandes, the officer said.

The ANC team seized 58.20 gram mephedrone and 15 gram of cocaine worth Rs 16,14,000.
