BJP’s Mumbai unit chief Ashish Shelar Tuesday said that some political parties and their leaders are trying to disrupt communal harmony in the state.
Shelar made these remarks while speaking at the party’s executive meeting held at Dadar in Mumbai.
Speaking about the last month’s protest by Marathas and OBCs over reservation, Shelar said, “It is evident that some political parties and their leaders are trying to exploit the caste reservation to disrupt communal harmony in Maharashtra. It is being done to gain political mileage.”
Although Shelar did not mention any party’s name, the attack was directed at Shiv Sena ( UBT) and NCP ( Sharad Pawar faction), party insiders indicated.
According to Shelar, the objective of the meeting was to evaluate the various political happenings in the state, conduct reviews on how the organization can be further strengthened and plan for activities to be carried out, both at the Centre and the state level.
A resolution was also adopted at the meeting to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing the women reservation Bill.
Shelar added that the BJP has come up with a special initiative — Mahavijay 2024 — setting a target of 45 plus seats in the state for Lok Sabha polls.
Shelar further said, “Another serious issue that was discussed during the meeting was about how some political parties and their leaders are trying to disrupt communal harmony in the state for the political gains… Neither will people of Maharashtra nor the state government will tolerate it.”
Among those present at the meeting were Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, state BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule, and national general secretary Vinod Tawde.
