Slideshows to warn against railway track trespassing

The Central Railway will screen slides in theatres and multiplexes urging people not to trespass railway tracks.

The Central Railway (CR) will screen slides in theatres and multiplexes urging people not to trespass railway tracks.

Around 200 slides in Marathi,English and Hindi have been prepared to screen them in theatres, said chief spokesperson for the Central Railway Shriniwas Mudgerikar.

“Our officials have met the collector and district suburban collector and requestd them to to screen these slides in theatres. It is an effective way to reach out to the masses,” he said.

“We are extending this to our divisions in Pune,Bhusawal and Solapur. The Western Railway (WR) too has been urging people not to cross tracks through radio. It also displays advertisements and stages street plays to spread the message.”

Trespassing is one of the major reasons behind deaths on tracks. Around 8-10 cases of trespassing are reported on CR everyday,of which 3-4 people die.

The CR has highest number of trespassing cases especially at stations like Thane,Wadala,Vashi and Kurla where maximum number of casualties occur. The railways’ efforts to curb the cases of tresspassing has yielded little success.

Despite contructing walls along the railway tracks and imposing penalty on commuters for the offence, the number of deaths remains constant.
