A police sub-inspector and six constables, who were part of an escorting team of DHFL group promoters Dheeraj Wadhawan and Kapil Wadhawan, were on Tuesday suspended by the Navi Mumbai police commissionerate for allegedly giving special treatment to them.
According to police, the escorting team had given allowed the Wadhawan brothers, who were jailed in a multi-crore scam, to enjoy meals and use mobile phones and laptops during their visits to JJ and KEM hospitals in Mumbai on August 9 and August 7 respectively.
Confirming the development, a senior officer of the Navi Mumbai police commissionerate said, “The suspension order was issued after a video of the escorting team allowing them to sit in a private car, have special meals and conduct business meetings was aired on a television channel.”
The names of suspended officials are sub-inspector Ashutosh Deshmukh and constables Ravindra Devere, Vishal Dakhne, Pradeep Lokhande, Sagar Deshmukh, Maya Barve and Prajakta Patil.
The purported videos were shot on August 7 and August 9 at the respective hospitals, where Dheeraj and Kapil were undergoing medical treatments.
The Wadhawans are lodged in Taloja jail after they were arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in 2020 in connection with the Yes Bank fraud case.
