Family members of Syed Saifuddin, 43, the fourth person who was shot dead on the Jaipur-Mumbai Superfast Express train by Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Chetan Singh on July 31, arrived in Mumbai along with a few leaders of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and received his mortal remains early Wednesday.
According to officials, Saifuddin’s elder brother, his uncle and four other cousins came to Mumbai from Hyderabad Tuesday night along with AIMIM MLA Jaffar Hussain Mehraj.
A family member requesting anonymity said, “After completing the formalities, the elder brother and four cousins received his body and left Mumbai in an ambulance at around 11am Wednesday. The body will be taken to Bidar in Karnataka where wife and family live. The last rites may be held late night.” The family member said that AIMIM leaders and his uncle will leave by flight later.
The RPF constable who shot dead four, including his colleague and RPF assistant sub-inspector Tikaram Meena, allegedly took Saifuddin from coach B2 to the pantry coach at gunpoint.
“As soon as Saifuddin told his name, the RPF constable forced him to accompany him at gunpoint,” said a relative of Zaffar Khan (76), who was travelling with Saifuddin in the train. The relative added that Khan objected and asked the constable why he was taking Saifuddin away.
The relative also said that Saifuddin was identified almost a day after the firing incident in the train.
“We had one of my employees at the hospital but no one entertained him there. Later in the night, my employee went to the Borivali GRP to inquire about Saifuddin. After waiting for several hours, the GRP showed my employee the photos of the victims and my employee showed Saifuddin’s Aadhaar card after which his identity was confirmed,” the relative said.
