Senior Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader Anandrao Adsul on Sunday expressed a strong reservation to Navneet Rana contesting as a BJP candidate for the Amravati Lok Sabha constituency. Although the BJP has made no official announcement about the seat, sitting MP Navneet Rana has indicated that she would contest from Amravati from MahaYuti’s side.
Speaking to the press, Navneet Rana said, “The lotus is always in Goddess Laxmi’s hand”, which is being construed to mean that she would get the BJP ticket.
Adsul who started touring Amravati from Sunday warned, “We will oppose Navneet Rana’s candidature from Amravati.”
Both Shinde-led Sena as well as BJP are staking claim on the Amravati Lok Sabha seat. The BJP has indicated that if Rana was ready to contest from their side, they would consider her candidature. Rana also met state leaders.
In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Navneet Rana contested as an independent. She defeated undivided Sena candidate Anand Adsul. The Sena was then in alliance with BJP.
On the other hand, Adsul had represented Amravati in 2009 to 2014, and 2014 to 2019. Earlier, he had contested and represented Buldhana seat in 1996-1998, 1999-2004 and 2004-2009. In late PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government, Adsul served as Minister of State (MoS) for Finance during 2004-09.
The Amravati constituency – one of Vidarbha’s ten seats – in Western Vidarbha has caused a power tussle between alliance partners in the state.
