With the Supreme Court verdict Thursday guaranteeing the continuation of the BJP-Shiv Sena government, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Shiv Sena will concentrate on the expansion of his party by winning over the cadre of Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena.
The Shinde-led Shiv Sena is hoping for more legislators, parliamentarians and other leaders from Shiv Sena (UBT), who were waiting for the decision of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the disqualification of 16 MLAs, to join them. The SC verdict is being considered by the party as a boost for it to grow in the city like Mumbai where the party is still struggling to get its hold.
Uday Samant, the state Industries Minister, has claimed that many leaders from Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena (UBT) are currently in touch with Shinde and can switch over anytime after the verdict.
“Many MLAs from MVA are in touch with Shinde ji and others in government. I am making this statement with a responsibility. The people will realise soon,” Samant said.
A Shiv Sena leader said, “With the verdict, legally we have got recognition as well as a boost. Many Sena workers and leaders who were were waiting for the verdict, have realised that we were right. Many including workers, coporators, MLAS and MPs will join us ahead of the civic body and Lok Sabha elections. We will also increase our party network in Mumbai,” he said.
