FORMER MUMBAI Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria, IPS officer R D Shinde and 21 others will not be examined by the Central Bureau of Investigation as witnesses in the Sheena Bora murder case, the CBI told a special court on Thursday.
Media executive Indrani Mukerjea, who is facing trial for the alleged murder of her daughter Sheena, had sought a list of all witnesses and other evidence being relied upon by the CBI. She also sought a list of material not being referred to in the trial. Following this, the court had directed the CBI to submit such a list.
In April, the CBI submitted a list of 92 witnesses it was going to examine in the trial. On Thursday, the CBI also submitted a list of witnesses not relied upon by the agency.
These include Maria, who was the Mumbai Police Commissioner in 2015 when Indrani, her former driver, Shyamvar Rai and her former husband Sanjeev Khanna, were arrested by the Mumbai police for the alleged murder which took place on April 24, 2012.
Maria had also interrogated Indrani then. The CBI has also dropped Shinde, who was the superintendent of police in Raigad in 2012, when the body was found but had remained unidentified.
Among others dropped are adman Suhel Seth, six medical experts, Dinesh Kadam, inspector of police at Khar police station, where the initial FIR was filed, IPS officer Satyanarayan, who was the deputy commissioner of police of west region in 2015.
Currently, the trial in the case is ongoing, with all the accused out on bail.
