The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will again start replacing damaged sewage pipelines below the Peddar Road from Saturday.
Keeping in mind the public outcry in March when it had first taken up refurbishing of the 240 m-long sewer line, the BMC has advertised the route plan in major newspapers. This is the first time the civic body has taken such a step for a routine work.
The traffic between Gamadia Road and Cadbury junction will be diverted till May 16,when the work is expected to be over. The Gamadia Road junction will be made one-way from Dr Gopalrao Deshmukh Road to Bhulabhai Desai Road. The north-bound traffic will be able to use the diversion via Gamadia Road. Motorists will also be able to use alternate route via Kemps Corner to Stephen Church,American Embassy and Cadbury junction.
To avoid delays, vehicles can also use the alternate routes via P D’Mello Road and Maharashi Karve Road. Motorists can also take the right turn at Wilson College and use Pandita Ramabai Road to Nana Chowk for reaching Tardeo Circle and Haji Ali junction. The BMC along with the traffic department will place signboards at various junctions to guide the motorists.
On March 29,the BMC and the traffic department had embarked on the same work but the work was abruptly halted next day due to “chaotic traffic situation”.
