Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who heads a faction of the NCP, said Saturday that the ruling alliance also comprising the BJP and the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had not held any seat-sharing talks for the upcoming Lok Sabha or Assembly polls.
A call on the matter will be taken after the Assembly elections underway in four states, he said.
“There has been no definitive discussion about the seat sharing yet. Electoral merit will be the basis for the seat-sharing formula. Winnability will be considered while taking a decision. This kind of primary discussion took place. But currently elections are going on in four states. A decision will be taken after the polls in these states,” said Pawar, who met Union Home Minister Amit Shah earlier this month.
Responding to NCP MP Supriya Sule’s statement that despite having 200 MLAs, the government is not stable, Pawar said the government was stable as all the ruling MLAs were together and that the state was doing well under Shinde’s leadership.
Pawar also expressed displeasure over the swipes taken by the Opposition over his meeting with Shah. “I was down with dengue for 15 days. However, some people claimed that I had a political illness; it is nothing like that. Some even alleged that I met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to complain. But I am not the one to complain,” he said.
