With Mumbai Universitys semester exams marred by goof-ups and chaos, senate members are set to take on the varsity administration in the senate meeting on Tuesday. The senators demand that the varsity cancel the contract with the Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Ltd (MKCL).
The senate members have alleged that by outsourcing the work of online admission and issuing of hall tickets, the varsity wants to wash its hand of responsibility.
Hall tickets with wrong subjects, incorrect codes, dates that do not match timetables, students with no disability declared visually impaired are some of the errors that occurred this exam season, according to students. In addition, the varsity administration revised the seating arrangement on Friday,a day before the final year semester exam, because of which many students went to the wrong centre, said a student.
A similar situation occurred last exam season, and repeating the errors this year shows that neither the varsity administration nor the MKCL has learnt any lessons. What angers us further is that the varsity is still trying to sort the issue with the MKCL instead of cancelling the MoU with them, said Sanjay Vairal,a senate member.
This is the first batch of final year students that is appearing for the semester exam following the recently implemented credit based semester system. Senate members and sources from varsitys examination centre said the issue cropped up because many students who appeared for their exam in May and others from this semester have not received their enrolment numbers.
University Vice-Chancellor Rajan Welukar was not available for comment.
The university had said the issue would be resolved. They had also assured that the situation will be reviewed and those responsible for the errors would be punished. However, neither did they fulfil their promise nor were they able to prevent goof-ups from happening again, said senate member Sudhakar Tamboli.
Pro-Vice chancellor Dr Naresh Chandra blamed students for the goof-ups. There is no blunder; minor errors have been hyped. The problem has occurred in the case of those students who filled in wrong information in their exam form. We are dealing with these on a case-to-case basis, he said.
